Wellness Wednesday: Nike FuelBand

Happy Wednesday Everyone!!

Today I would like to share with you all my favorite accessory to wear each and everyday which is my Nike FuelBand! I first learned about it earlier this year when two of my friends told me how it motivates them to stay active throughout the day, set daily goals, and motivates them to live a healthier lifestyle. I received my FuelBand as a gift from my lovely parents which was back in April and since then, I may have only left home without it a couple of times.

Some of my friends ask me “What is that black bracelet?”, “What does it do?”, “Do you wear it everyday?”, etc. So I just wanted to go more in depth and show you what the FuelBand actually does.

Daily Goal

My daily goal is 2300 which is perfect for me because if I do not get a chance to run or workout I will still be able to reach my goal. I do feel as though I am capable of increasing it to 2500 but right now 2300 works for me!Nike Fuel To DateSince April I have accumulated 413, 718 Fuel Points!

Daily Nike FuelThere is a neat app for those who own FuelBand’s and each day it will break down how many calories, steps, hours won, and of course your fuel points.

The short video shows how the FuelBand operates + My stats from yesterday↓

By walking, running, and one hour of step aerobics class, I was able to exceed my goal of 2300. If you are interested in purchasing a FuelBand check Amazon.com, a local Apple and Nike Factory Store.

I hope you all enjoyed today’s post and I hope you have a wonderful Wednesday!

With Love,

Hello Everyone!!

I hope all is well. Today I would like to tell you all about a great brand called SOREL. I was given the opportunity to choose a pair of boots from the website and share my thoughts about my new boots. SOREL boots are bold, modern, comfortable, waterproof, and original. My particular boots can be worn different ways, which is pretty neat!

Would you like to own your own SOREL Boots? Share your back to campus look with #SORELstyleContest on Instagram or Twitter and you could win a trip to New York for teenVOGUE’s Fashion University, or one of ten $250 shopping sprees and SOREL boots!

Disclosure: This post was sponsored by SOREL through their partnership with POPSUGAR Select. While I was compensated to write a post about SOREL, all opinions are my own.

Drop Waist in the Work Place

drop waist in the work placeGood Morning Everyone!

I hope you all had a great weekend. Mine was pretty good! So many of you are already aware that I am no longer a teacher and I am now pursuing a Master’s degree in Higher Education Leadership. I am currently a Graduate Assistant for Event Planning in the Student Union at FAU. I absolutely love my job and all that it entails. The staff is amazing and it is never a dull moment within the Union. Since I am working in a more professional setting, I had to upgrade my work wardrobe. Getting dressed for work each day is a joy and I love being creative with some of my work pieces. If you follow me on Instagram then you have seen a few work outfits that I have posted.

This dress is one of my favorites thus far. I love drop waist dresses and skirts and the fact that it is appropriate to wear to work is a plus! I purchased this dress a few months back at Kohls and fell in love with it as soon as I put it on. I hope you all will enjoy today’s post!

ASW’s Entrepreneur Spotlight: Courtney Aiken-Mary Kay Independent Beauty Consultant

Hey Everyone!

Today I am relaunching my blog series “ASW’s Entrepreneur Spotlight.” I love this series because I get to learn more about what women our doing in our communities. Every other Friday I will spotlight an entrepreneur who is passionate about their craft. This in turn may inspire you to start your own business venture or work toward a goal you have been putting off. I hope you all will enjoy today’s feature!

Courtney Aiken is a 26 yr old Florida native who is from a small city, a little north of Orlando, called Apopka.  She is a proud graduate from the Florida State University, where she received a B.S. in Sociology. Additionally, she received Masters of Science in Higher Education Administration from Florida International University. Currently, she resides in Miami, FL and works full time in the field of Higher Education as an Assistant Director. She also owns her own business as a Mary Kay Independent Beauty Consultant.

As a Mary Kay Independent Beauty Consultant, Courtney sells Mary Kay skin care, body care, fragrances, makeup, and so much more. She helps both men and women learn about basic beauty and skin care regimens (such as anti-aging, acne-prone or sensitive skincare), color application, body care, fragrances, etc. She also assists people with customizing gift packages as well as empowers and supports other women who are interested in starting their own Mary Kay Business.

When she is not working full time, you can find Courtney looking for opportunities to advance her business, researching her next vacation destination, spending time with family and friends, meeting new people at networking events, relaxing on the beach and catching up on episodes all of her favorite shows on her DVR.

ASW: What inspired you to start your own Mary Kay business? How long have you been in business?

I was inspired to start my own business after attending the One Hand One Heart Women Empowerment Seminar last November. One of the guest speakers was a Pastor and she prayed over everyone who was in attendance; she prayed that we would step outside of our comfort zone, that we would no longer be afraid of the unknown, and to be encouraged to try something new. Surprisingly, she shared with us that she was a Mary Kay Independent Beauty Consultant and uses her business to minister to her clients. This event definitely planted the seed for me to explore the idea of becoming an entrepreneur.

Additionally, I have several close friends who are entrepreneurs. I was encouraged and inspired by them to find something that I was passionate about. A spark ignited in me, and after praying about it, I decided to start my own business. I have been in my business a few months shy of a year, since November 2013.

ASW: What is the best part of your job?

The best part of being a Mary Kay Independent Beauty Consultant is being able to be my own boss, make my own hours and I can use the talents and bring the passion that I already have. Also, I love being able to offer personalized services for my clients and create ideal beauty experiences just for them. Whether that includes a one-on-one consultation, a party with friends, a virtual party, helping them find the perfect gift for someone, giving skin care advice and providing makeup tips or free samples. That’s one thing I love about Mary Kay, you can always try before you buy – it truly sets us apart from others.

ASW:  What products do your clients typically order?

There is no ONE product that my clients typically order since there are so many different Mary Kay products to choose from. Products range from skin care, makeup, body and sun care, fragrances, men’s grooming, and much more. I do have a few products that have been some of my best sellers. They include: the Satin Hands Pampering Set (both women and men LOVE this), the TimeWise Miracle Set, the Oil-Free Eye Makeup Remover and theUltimate Mascara!!

ASW: I absolutely love the CC Cream by Mary Kay. I wear it almost every day. What Mary Kay product do you wear on a consistent basis?

I also wear the Mary Kay CC Cream well almost every day as well! It is such an easy complexion correction that acts like makeup, provides lightweight coverage AND is a sunscreen; it is pretty awesome, huh? I LOVE that it just blends in so naturally and smoothly with my complexion.

Besides that I am very strict with my skin care regimen, so I use the TimeWise Miracle Set daily, which includes our Age-Fighting Moisturizer, 3-In-1 Cleanser, Day Solution Sun Screen Broad Spectrum and Night Solution. The cleanser combines age-fighting benefits plus three essential skin care benefits in one product, to cleanse, exfoliate and refresh – revealing younger-looking skin. The TimeWise Age-Fighting Moisturizer is formulated with a patented complex that reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. All four of these products combined are AMAZING in helping to keep my skin younger-looking!!

The last Mary Kay product that is a staple in my daily routine is my NouriShine Plus Lipgloss. It does wonders for smoothing, protecting and conditioning my lips. Right now, my two favorites are Berry Tart and Au Naturel.

ASW: What advice would you give to young women like yourself who want to go into business for themselves?

The advice that I would give young women like myself who want to go into business for themselves is to step out on faith and just do IT! Take the time to discover what you love and turn your dreams into success; there is no better time than the present. Even when people think you are crazy, keep praying, pushing and pressing forward. Be encouraged and keep people around you who lift you up; there will be times of discouragement, and you will need their support – but do not solely rely on them. You have to remind YOURSELF of the reason why you started in the beginning.

ASW: Where do you see yourself and your business in 5 years?

In 5 years, I see myself continuing to move up in leadership in my Mary Kay business – maybe I’ll be an Independent Sales Director. Who knows? What I do know is that I would like to continue impacting women’s lives and empowering them to be their best selves. It is my goal to make my clients look, feel, smell and truly believe that they are beautiful. I really think that when you are able to make others feel beautiful, it truly makes a difference.

I would love to continue touching lives and sharing this great opportunity of Mary Kay and bringing other women into this company. The founder, Mary Kay Ash, started this company with the vision of enriching the lives of women around the world. Today her vision continues to bring women the opportunity to achieve their potential and bring their dreams to life.

Selfie on ABC

Hi Everyone!!

I was recently asked to participate in the Selfie Challenge for the new show Selfie, which premieres on September 30th. My challenge was to cleanse myself of social media for one day. I will say it was that it was tough at first but I took the opportunity to focus more on exercising opposed to logging on to my social media platforms. I exceeded my goal of 2300 fuel points and ended the day with over 5,000 points!

Nike Fuel

After watching the pilot for Selfie, I found out that I can’t relate to the main character Eliza who is incredibly obsessed with social media. The show starts out with Eliza being embarrassed on a flight and the attendees took it upon themselves to video and photograph the way she looked after a mishap. Once she gets to the office the next day she meets someone who she feels can help her get herself together. With his guidance it may be possible for her to transform from a social media girly girl to a well-rounded young lady.

As stated previously, Selfie will air on September 30 at 8pm/7pm Central on ABC. I challenge you to take a day and cleanse yourself of social media. You would be surprised at what you can accomplish without the use of social media!
